Sharks on the Fly, Florida Keys

Several years ago, myself and the TV crew from Fly Fishing the World went to the Florida Keys specifically to film a shark on-the fly episode with shark fishing extraordinaire Conway Bowman, legendary captain, R.T. Trosset and his son, Chris.

 

With the chum line set, it didn’t take long for the toothy critters to appear

 

Shark fishing on the fly is a relatively simple game, and in the Keys, multiple species are available.

We did some jigging for a variety of bottom fish, somebody got a little over-zealous on the hookset and Chris ended up with a heavy jig in his cheek. He fished through it, but eventually his dad stepped in to perform a quick surgery.
