Flies from “The February Room”-Episode 7, Michelle Woo Bowman-“Ack Attack” sea bass fly
Full disclosure here, while we’ve never caught a Pacific White Sea Bass on this fly, we have turned enough stripers and other anchovy-eating predators on this pattern to believe that its worth having a selection of these in every saltwater fly box.
The “Ack Attack” is a simple, durable creation based on the baitfish designs of Enrico Puglisi. https://www.epflies.com/
Begin with a 1/0 Gamakatsu saltwater hook, alternate EP fibers in white/cream up the hook shank, add dumbbell eyes, finish with a few fibers of blue light bright, and stripe the body using a black sharpie. That’s it. This pattern is equally effective for largemouth bass, brown trout, and any fish that eats other fish. A great pattern for a So Cal angler in a target-rich region!
