#2-Guatemala

Just a short boat ride from Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, lies “The Pocket”, an undersea canyon that drops to 4000 feet within view of the highly volcanic Pacific coastline, creating a current trap that concentrates baitfish.

Where there are concentrations of baitfish, there will be concentrations of predators, and in this case, the most sought-after big game-angling quarry on the planet…billfish!

Both marlin and pacific sailfish are available but the latter exist in staggering numbers. Anglers come from around the world to do battle with the always acrobatic sailfish, and when the seas are happy, these fish are relatively easily caught with fly tackle.

The bounty of life in these waters is unmatched. At times, sea turtles stretch to the horizon and the captains must be careful not to run them over. Porpoise, dolphins, mahi mahi, tuna, roosterfish…you just never know what you are going to find in the gentle ocean but an unforgettable experience is guaranteed!
